What did I take away from my first viewing of the pilot episode of AtS?

Oh my god, Doyle has a fedora!

Obviously, I pay attention to the important things.

Okay, no, I took away more than that. The beginning bit with fake!drunk!Angel is just wonderful. Amusing and I think it's a great way to kick it all off.

You know, I've never really thought about how damn smooth Angel actually is. Socially awkward, yes, but smooth as hell. Love the moments where he creates an entire persona as a cover in seconds. Just all seems to fall together like nothing. For someone so lacking in the human interaction department, he's got a great handle on people and able to pull off whatever role he needs to.

I'm being to appreciate Angel even more. My question, though, is where on earth did he get all those Hawaiian shirts? What, did he raid Xander's closet before he left for LA?

Oh gods, do I adore Doyle. Fedora aside, he's a great character. Before watching this season, I knew very little about him -- seems no one really writes Doyle fic (a fact I'm bemoaning now) and he's rather . . . forgotten about. Poor guy never did get much of a run. I cried terribly at his death, though. Knew it was happening, knew exactly how, and I still cried.

Watching Cordelia and Angel deal with the death is incredibly interesting though. Angel's guilt and whole stoic attitude about it . . . and, oh gods, I just love the look of "I'm hurt, but I also get the feeling I shouldn't be in this room anymore" that Wesley gets when Angel calls him Doyle. Watched that scene a few times over.

Actually, I just love "I've Got You Under My Skin" period. Wesley's marvelous in it (his insisting that he can perform the exorcism, all of it). Broke my heart, watching his reaction to the boy/demon mentioning his father, and I think I snapped when he mentioned that a father can terrorize his child easily.

I know I'm all over the place, but I'm just loving this.

"Parting Gifts"? Marvelous episode. Best Entrance Made By a Character goes to Wesley (though I may be biased). Actually seeing the chafing line made my day.

I absolutely adore the protectiveness of Wesley and Angel in "Expecting". It's sweet, and it made me happy.

Kate bothers me. Always has, always will. I do not like her character, not at all. Sort of dims my fannish strokes.

I have more, but I'm rather absorbed with watching the discs. Four discs done in less than twenty-four hours. I'll ignore what that says about my productivity.

Oh, I do love that time of Angel. Glenn Quinn (Doyle) was just wonderful, and Wesley broke my heart many times over in his early eps. As for Doyle fic, there is a Doyle archive called, ironically enough in light of your comment, Not Forgotten. Might be worth checking out.

PS Looooove a man that can wear a fedora :-)

Personally, I adore Doyle's style. Suits him stunningly.

I've always loved Glenn Quinn. This just cinched it.

Oh, and Wesley. I just cannot fully explain the range of emotions he's been making me feel. Most all of them end in cuddling, though.

Thanks for the link.

Me, too. I was very upset when I learned he died in 2003 (I think). Glenn didn't get much show on 'Angel' but he was a very talented actor. I was sad when he died in the show and real life.

Be prepared, cause his character's just gonna get darker and darker through each season/episode.

On one of the discs, there's a feature including biographies for the characters and actors. For Glenn Quinn, it ends by saying how he is currently living in Los Angeles. Hurt to read that.

I love how dark Wesley gets (I also love the scene in "Orpheus" where he's talking to Willow about how dark he's gotten -- he mentions how he's kept Justine locked in his closet and she mentions how she flayed Warren -- the look on Wesley's face is perfectly "Oh" and reminds me so much of earlier Wesley). I'm really looking forward to seeing the character grow into what he became. Worried about when I'll finally get to the last episode, though. I know I'll bawl.

She was sort of a replacement Buffy to me. They had so much stuff alike. (Seeing as Angel just came from Sunnydale, then, it was probably done on purpose, too.) And there was this opening scene where Kate was trying to catch someone but they just showed her silhouette, she looked so much like Buffy then.

It's sad 'cause I never liked Angel. I liked the show and the character progressions but the character Angel just never really clicked with me. He was so hopeless. From the beginning, Joss and co. went into this show without really knowing what to do with it and, truth be told, seasons one to four of Angel were just sputtering messes. They got their real footing when Joss paid more attention and time to it on season five (after Buffy had rapped up).

It's upsetting because, unlike Buffy, there is no end for Angel. There is no bright light at the end of the tunnel for him. Buffy could have had her normal life right after the potentials were all called but Angel doesn't have that. Still, it was a good run and it's still one of the best shows, in my opinion, just right after Buffy.

I used to actively dislike Angel -- thought of him as cardboard, and really didn't care for him. Once I saw him away from Buffy and actually a character all on his own, I started to like him. He's kind of interesting, now.

I can kind of understand that -- the show does seem to jump around a bit. Still love it, though.
